Charters Towers Vistors Information Centre

Once the second largest city in Queensland at the height of the city's gold rush, Charters Towers is now renowned for its historic character and appeal, and for its collection of beautifully preserved 19th and early 20th century buildings and streetscapes.

Travelling south west of Townsville, Charters Towers is a comfortable 90 minute drive (135km) on the Flinders Highway.  The city is easily accessible to travellers by car, coach (daily services from Townsville and Mt Isa) and twice weekly rail connections.  Access routes to Charters Towers via Hughenden to the west, Greenvale to the north and Clermont to the south are sealed bitumen roads.  The Airport has non commercial flights and is rated at 7/F/A 580 (84 PSI)U.
