Mungalla Aboriginal Tours

Mungalla Station is a unique experience of the culture and history of Mungalla Station and its Aboriginal owners. Discover the Culture and History of Mungalla Station and the Nywaigi Aboriginal People of North Queensland.

Meet the Nywaigi Aboriginal people, the Aboriginal traditional owners of the lands around Ingham in North Queensland.  Experience our rich culture and history.  Learn of the often brutal conflict between Nywaigi Aboriginal people and European settlers that shaped the destiny of North Queensland.

Explore the property established by James Cassady, who fled the potato famine of Ireland and created a pastoral dynasty.  Visit the birthplace of the world famous mighty Droughtmaster cattle, the original homestead, the graves of James Cassady and his son, the wetlands and precious birdlife.

Be amazed by the story of the Aboriginal people from Mungalla Station and surrounding areas that were exhibited as cannibals and savages in the nineteenth century circuses and sideshows of Europe and America. Try your hand at throwing a boomerang or spear.

This is an authentic Aboriginal experience that will stay with you long after you return home.

Mungalla Station is located approximately 12 kilometres east of the sugar cane township of Ingham in North Queensland.  Ingham is on the Bruce Highway 1.5 hours drive north of Townsville and 3.5 hours drive south of Cairns.

From Ingham look for the Forrest Beach Signs and follow the Forrest Beach Road towards Forrest Beach (Allingham).  The signs to Forrest Beach are found in Ingham at the only set of traffic lights in the town.  Once you are on the Forrest Beach Road take a scenic drive for approximately 12 kilometres passing the Victoria Sugar Mill.  Look for the large grove of mango trees on the right that frame the entrance to Mungalla Station, you should see a Mungalla sign near the driveway entrance.  Turn right into the driveway and follow the road down to the homestead
