Ingham is located 110 kilometres north of Townsville and 220 kilometres south of Cairns. It is situated in the Herbert River Valley in Tropical North Queensland. Ingham is part of the Hinchinbrook Shire. The economy is rural based, with sugar cane farming being the dominant industry. Cane has been growing in around the 1870s. This industry employes many South Sea Islanders and Italian immigrants.
